Orthodontics
Braces and Clear Aligners in Udaipur
Orthodontic treatment at Dental Speciality Centre is handled by an orthodontist with a postgraduate qualification in the field, at our clinic on the 2nd floor of Mediplaza in Maduban.
What orthodontic treatment involves
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the position of the teeth and the way the upper and lower jaws meet. Treatment applies gentle, sustained pressure so that teeth move gradually into a better position, using either fixed braces bonded to the teeth or a series of removable clear aligners.
Which approach suits you is not something that can be decided from a photograph or over the phone. It follows a clinical examination and radiographs, because the plan depends on how your teeth are positioned, the state of the supporting bone and gums, and how your bite closes.
Concerns orthodontic treatment addresses
Crowded teeth, where there is not enough room for the teeth to sit in line. Spacing, where gaps remain between teeth. Teeth that protrude or sit out of the arch. Bite concerns, where the upper and lower teeth do not meet as they should, which can affect how you chew and how evenly your teeth wear.
Alignment is not only about appearance. Teeth that are crowded or overlapping are harder to clean thoroughly, which can make gum problems and decay more likely over time.
Braces or clear aligners
Fixed braces stay bonded to the teeth throughout treatment and are not removed by the patient. Clear aligners are a series of removable trays, worn as directed and changed at intervals, and are less visible.
Both work by moving teeth gradually, and neither is automatically the better choice. Suitability depends on what needs to move and by how much. Some situations are treated well with either; others are better served by one. Your orthodontist will explain which applies in your case, and what each option would mean in practice, before anything begins.
What to expect at the first visit
The first appointment is a consultation. Your concerns are discussed, your teeth, gums and bite are examined, and radiographs are taken where needed. You are then told what the options are, what the treatment would involve and roughly how long it is likely to take.
There is no obligation to begin treatment at that visit. If you are seeking a second opinion, that is a perfectly reasonable use of a consultation.
Questions patients ask
Who provides orthodontic treatment at the clinic?
Dr. Sumer Chand Meena, BDS, MDS, an orthodontist. Orthodontics is one of the clinic's two areas of specialisation.
Am I too old for braces?
Orthodontic treatment is not limited to children and teenagers. Adults are treated too. What matters more than age is the health of the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, which is assessed at the consultation. Since the clinic has a periodontist as well, gum health can be reviewed at the same time.
Do I need a referral to book a consultation?
No. Call 9309483201 during consultation hours and the clinic will arrange an appointment.
